11th of August, 08:30 - 3pm.
Cost: €50, includes lunch, coffee, beer and craic!
What to expect?
This workshop has a lot going on! I have been brewing beer since before my wedding, and that was in 2015! I made the switch to all-grain brewing (using grain and not malt) in 2016 and it really lifted the levels of satisfaction in the product and the brewing process. It is this all grain process that I want to share with you at the workshop. What I should add here is that starting all grain brewing is not overly expensive and all the instruments and vessels needed are available in Ireland.
Home brewing and bottling your own really brings out your creative side and they do make the finest of gifts and wedding favours!!

Rather than it being a purely home brewing tutorial, I figured a bike ride would fit very nicely with this workshop. What works well with a home brewing workshop? Sampling home brew of course! We'll have the same stout available to sample (along with others) as the one that we will be making. We also have a superb location for this workshop at our studio with its social corner ideally set up for this kind of thing.
Lunch will be included and provided by the nearby Workshop Cafe and entertainment will be provided by the puppets with balloons for heads!!
The Agenda:
08:30 Meet at the Life Fit Studio for introductions over coffee. Be in your bike gear because we will be heading out for the ride once we start the brewing process, i.e soak the grain in the mash tun.
Everyone will be given a brewing log sheet for you to put in the measurements at each stage of the brew.
09:30 Bike ride around the local roads for 1 hour.
10:45 Gather around the mash tun for the next phase of the brew where we collect the wort (sugary liquid) from the mashed grain. This takes 1 hour.
11:45 More coffee and/or beer, the choice is yours! We will have a few types of beers available for tasting and also the stout that we are making will be on offer too! This is the start of the boil phase of the brew and again takes 1 hour.
12:45 Cooling down the brew and pitching the yeast
1:30 Lunch (provided by the nearby Workshop Cafe), and a puppet sword fighting tournament!!!
3pm Good-byes and safe travels. Emphasis on safe. Please cycle or use a taxi if you intend on having a few samples of beer.
